- download the free Swiss File Knife Base from Sourceforge. - open the Windows CMD command line, Mac OS X Terminal or Linux shell. - OS X : type mv sfk-mac-i686.exe sfk and chmod +x sfk then ./sfk - Linux: type mv sfk-linux.exe sfk and chmod +x sfk then ./sfk OS X and Linux syntax may differ, check the help within the tool.
sfk strings [-umlauts] [-wrapbin=n] filename extract strings from a binary file. resulting text lines are split at column 80 by default, which can be changed by -wrapbin or -wrap. see also - sfk hexfind to search strings in files with hexdump output. - the text research tool Depeche View can also load binary files and display extracted text contents. For example, dview foo.exe will show strings from a single file, and dview -allbin mydir loads all text and binary files from mydir.
